London calling

After months of anticipation - who am I kidding? - years of anticipation, the day of my European adventure arrives. To test my patience a little more my flight was delayed almost four hours, but who cares I was almost out the door.  Also how could I complain when a non-stop flight to London was another dream come true!

Highlights from my flight across the pond include:

  • My two row mates bonding over regular discrimination episodes in airline security.
  • Movies! Movies! Movies! British Airways was messing with my plan to down an Ambien and remain comatosed - hopefully not sleep eating- for the entire journey. So many free new releases is like crack to a movie nerd like me.
  • Force feeding: I’m used to not even getting peanuts for free anymore so it was shocking when a hot dinner was shoved at me, no questions asked and no charge. It wasn’t a dinner hour in either country but the  tiny Kit Kat was greatly appreciated.

After sleeping most of the way and a painless trip through customs, I found made way to Paddington station via the Heathrow Express. Oh lovely, lovely Heathrow Express. A sharp reminder that there is always a quicker way to get around in Europe, you just have to pay a lot more.

Dropped my bags at the London Novotel Paddington, got seduced into small room upgrade that would accomodate all my electronic devices wirelessly and I was off into a beautiful sunny and warm evening in London-town.
